Accreditation:

What is JCAHO?

An independent, not-for-profit organization, the Joint Commission is the nation's predominant standards setting and accrediting body in health care. Since 1951, the Joint Commission has developed state-of-the-art, professionally based standards and evaluated the compliance of health care organizations against these benchmarks. The mission of the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations is to continuously improve the safety and quality of care provided to the public through the provision of health care accreditation and related services that support performance improvement in health care organizations.

The surgery center has been accredited by JCAHO since inception in 1993. ASC is surveyed every three years by JCAHO. The purpose of the survey is to evaluate the organization's compliance with the nationally established Joint Commission standards dealing with organizational quality-of-care-issues and the safety of the environment in which care is provided.
