Dr. Stokes:
 Dr.
W. Perry Stokes, Jr., graduated from Louisiana State University
in 1976, and later graduated from Louisiana State University Medical
Center, New Orleans in 1980. He completed his internship and residency
in Internal Medicine at University Medical Center in Lafayette by
1983. Dr. Stokes obtained his specialty training in Gastroenterology
at Ochsner Foundation Hospital, which he completed in 1985. He is
board certified in both Internal Medicine and Gastroenterology,
and is a Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology (F.A.C.G).
Dr. Stokes currently serves as the Medical Director of the Compliance
Committee at Iberia Medical Center and is an Assistant Professor
of Clinical Medicine at Louisiana State University Medical Center
in Lafayette. He is the Chief of Medical Staff and Governing Body
President at Acadiana Surgery Center, Inc. He is also a board member
of Community First Bank.
Over the past 15 years, Dr. Stokes has served as President, Vice
President, and Secretary/Treasurer of the Iberia Parish Medical
Society, Chief of Endoscopy at Dauterive Hospital and Iberia Medical
Center, Chief of Medical Staff and Chief of Medicine Department
at both hospitals, and has served on Quality Committees at both
hospitals.
What does Dr. Stokes treat?
As a Gastroenterologist, Dr. Stokes manages diseases and disorders
of the esophagus, stomach, liver, colon, gallbladder, and pancreas.
This includes colon cancer screening and non-surgical management
of gallstones and bleeding ulcers. It also includes symptoms related
to the gastrointestinal tract including difficulty swallowing, abdominal
pain, heartburn, hemorrhoids, and problems with bowels such as constipation,
diarrhea, passage of blood, etc.
As a courtesy to your referring physician, Dr. Stokes prefers
to limit his practice to Gastroenterology and to have your primary
care physician take care of your other medical needs. Following
consultation, you will return to your referring doctor unless your
case requires the continued attention of a Gastroenterologist.
